MUSAN - Museum of Underwater Sculpture

Discover a different kind of museum beneath the Mediterranean Sea at MUSAN (Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa), an extraordinary underwater sculpture forest located around 200 metres off Pernera Beach. Created by internationally acclaimed sculptor and environmental artist Jason deCaires Taylor, MUSAN brings together contemporary art, marine life and environmental conservation. The underwater collection features 93 sculptures depicting people, trees and forms inspired by nature. Set around 8–10 metres below the surface, the artworks create the feeling of exploring a submerged forest. Over time, the sculptures are gradually colonised by marine organisms, becoming part of the surrounding underwater ecosystem and creating habitats for marine life. What makes MUSAN special is that it is more than an art installation. The project was designed to encourage marine biodiversity and help transform an area of seabed into a thriving underwater environment. As the sea changes the sculptures, each visit can offer a slightly different view of the collection. The museum can be explored by snorkelling, freediving or scuba diving. Snorkellers and freedivers can enjoy views of the shallower sculptures, while certified scuba divers can explore the underwater route more closely. You can enter from the beach or arrange a boat dive through an approved diving centre.
